Round 3 Kanga News

26 Apr 2021 by Sunbury Kangaroos

It was a massive Saturday of football at The Pouch, with the Senior Women and all 3 Men’s sides playing.
The work behind the scenes in the lead up to and on the day by the SKFNC committee phenomenal.
A big thanks to the non-committee people that chipped in, all your help made it a day for all of us to enjoy together.
A day for the ages and a night to remember.

LADY ROOS LOSS TO PASCOE VALE NOT SO NEGATIVE.

They may have lost, but for the first time this season the Lady Roos had a full compliment of players, some playing for the first time.
Pascoe Vale travelled to the Pouch to take on our Lady Roos. The senior women’s side battled hard in the first quarter, although they didn’t score they managed to hold the Panthers to just 15 points by the end of the term.
The Lady Roos again took the fight to Pascoe Vale, while doing so scored their first point for the season, Pascoe Vale 30 points up at half time.
Pascoe Vale put the foot down after the main break kicking out to a 64 point lead at the final change.
It looked like another 100 point blow out for the women’s side, but to their credit, the girls kept the Panther’s to an 89 point final margin.
In 1988 the great philosopher Yazz said “The only way is up”. Great work ladies.

YOUNG ROOS MAUL BABY SHARKS DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO

Now that song is stuck in your head right? The Young Roos bounced back against Rupertswood this week, keeping the Sharks scoreless for the first quarter. Out running, out marking and out playing the Baby Sharks, kicking 5.4, going into the first break 34 points up.
The second quarter was much the same as the first with the lads kicking further ahead, adding 4.3 to Rupo’s 2 behinds, taking a commanding 59 point at half time.
The lead could have been more in the third, but the Young Roos only managed 5 behinds to the Sharks 1 behind, 63 points up going into the last.
It was a grind in the final term, the Sharks tightened up defensively and both sides only managed one goal. The Young Roos running out winners by 64 points.
A great win for the lads over the arch enemy.

ROO’S 2’s TOPSY TURVY WIN.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen the Roo’s 2s finally got the W.
The boys started well, taking it up to Rupo, kicking 4.1 to 2.3 finishing the first stanza 10 points up.
The Sharks outscored the Kangas in the second quarter, but Maxy’s men managed to end the half 5 points up.
Something went wrong with the script, Rupertswood took the upper hand, changing a 5 point deficit into a 5 point lead by 3 quarter time.
But the Roo’s 2s weren’t going to lie down, they weren’t going to let another game slip by, not this one.
The Kangas hit the front late in the last quarter, kicking 3.3 to Rupo’s 1.3, the Roo’s 2s ran out winners by 7 points
There is no better way to get your first WIN.

SENIORS NAIL BITTING WIN.

The Kangas took on the Sharks from Rupertswood in front of one of the biggest ever crowds at The Pouch.
It was a battled for the ages under the lights of Boardman No.3. The Roos got off to a good start kicking 5 goals straight, holding Rupo to 1.5 in the first quarter.
Rupertswood mounted a come back in the second, but the Kangas went to the main break still 16 points ahead. The Sharks started to circle and kept the Roos goalless for the third, sending the Kangas to the huddle at 3 quarter time 5 points behind.
Then it was on like Donky Kong. The final term became a battle royale, Rupo missing shots on goal and the Kangas fighting hard to regain the lead. The last 5 minutes of football lasted an eternity. The whole crowd on the edge of their seats.
Time Keeper Des thinks it was the final scoring shot of the game that put the Kangas 3 points in front, and when that final siren blew the roar could be heard as far away as Gap Road.
